UN GRAMO DEL GRAMO

Reenactment documentary performance

Un gramo del gramo is a reenactment documentary performance of a solo choreographed by artist Eva Bertomeu in her creation “Un gramo de locura” (2006).

The work of Eva Bertomeu had a great influence in shaping Alejandra’s acquaintance with dance; she has always appreciated the clarity of her compositions, her intensely personal movement style and her peerless expressivity.  Alejandra encountered and learnt this solo by the hands of Eva herself. The solo intrigued her in particular because of her choreographic and interpretive style, in the uninhibited and theatrical staging between the insanity and lucidity. Alejandra revisits this solo material again, from the desire to research on the motoric identity of the solo, and of Eva’s and her own relation.

In this reenactment documentary performance, Alejandra dances and tells about her research work on Eva’s solo. The choreographer opens the doors to the audience to the creative and research process, this being as important as the outcome of the work. The choreographer reveals the process of inquiry and the impression it has made. Mixing discursive, sensitive styles, and movement quotes, Eva’s absent body becomes present through the transformation of the solo into the choreographer’s body.

A treasure of the contemporary Spanish repertoire, almost forgotten, rescued in pursuit of a collective memory that is important to recall.
